Cross-posted from the From Poverty to Opportunity blog as part of Blog Action Day. This post was written by Rob Breymaier, Executive Director of Oak Park Regional Housing Center and a co-founder of MoveSmart.org.

Poverty is everywhere.

501(c)3!

We are incredibly pleased to announce that as of October 5th, 2008 the IRS determined that we are "exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code." Hooray!

Special thanks to go MoveSmart.org board member Jay Readey, who helped navigate us through the tricky waters of tax exemption, and the Community Economic Development Law Project, who connected us to Jay in the first place.

Racist Scapegoating and the Credit Crunch

First it was Fox News Channel host Neil Cavuto, then Minnesota's Rep. Michelle Bachmann. Now the always obnoxious Anne Coulter is joining the chorus with a column entitled, "They Gave Your Mortgage to a Less Qualified Minority".

It is important to label these attacks for what they are - the racist scapegoating of the credit crisis on racial and ethnic minorities.
