Human Rights Day
There's been a push in the non-profit world over the last decade or so to adopt a human rights framework. MoveSmart.org understands its work through this paradigm. But this Thursday, it's time to take a break from talking about how we talk about human rights and celebrate them. The Illinois Department of Human Rights and the American Indian Center are hosting "The Chicago Native Community Experience" this Thursday in honor of Human Rights Day. Details are below. The event is free and open to the public.

The Chicago Native Community Experience
Thursday, December 13, 2007
9am - 12noon
Michael Blandic Building -
(across from the James R. Thompson Center)
160 N. LaSalle, 5th floor
As you may know, each year, the Illinois Department of Human Rights makes an effort to commemorate International Human Rights Day and works with the Governor's Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes/IDHR Training Institute to put together Human Rights Week.
This year, the fair housing division is partnering with the the American Indian Center to host an event honoring and bring forth the successes and victories of the Native community in Chicago as they work to preserve culture, tradition and build unity.
This event will consist of a mini-reception and a panel discussion on the current state of the Native community. Also, Native dancers from the American Indian Center and local indigenous Aztec dance group, Nahuali, will lead dance ceremonies during the early portion of the program.
